Japanese Whisky
Masataka Taketsuru was the pioneer of Japanese Whisky. After moving to Scotland in 1918 and spending a few years there, learning as much as he could about whisky and the distillation process, he then returned to his motherland and helped Shinjiro Torii in the development of the first whisky distillery in Japan, Yamazaki, in 1923. Suntory soon became the first authentic Japanese whisky label. A few years after, Taketsuru himself founded Nikka Whisky, and even if both brands are rivals, they were closely related in their inceptions.
Typical style: Japanese whisky tends to have either an herbal and clean palate or a mellower, fruiter one. Notes of honey, cherry blossom, spice, and creaminess can be usually found.
Did you know? Nowadays Japan is the fourth largest producer of whisky worldwide.
